Differential geared variator

The utility model relates to the field of mechanical engineering, namely, to units for infinitely variable speed transmission devices. This variator can be used in machinery where the drive shaft is exposed to alternating loading such as in ground transport (starting with bicycle down to electric locomotive), metal-working industry machines, and lifting-and-shifting mechanisms.

The purpose of the offered variator is to create an infinitely variable speed transmission with power flow circulation and unlimited band of control and power transfer.

The offered utility model can solve several problems of different mechanisms. One of them is the problem of decreasing costs on producing complex stepped gearing which gearing can never work in its optimal mode. Also there are the problems of converting an alternating current into direct current for ground transport, power saving and simplification of operator’s work.

The offered variator in comparison with its existing analogues has the following advantages:

  • high efficiency output;
  • better performance of drive (engine) functioning in different modes;
  • simple engineering solution;
  • compactness of the structure;
  • low material cost, laboriousness and power consuming of its manufacturing;
  • high manufacturability due to the use of widely known and available parts and equipment;
  • simple exploitation process;
  • low prime cost;
  • high reliability and durability;
  • simple in maintenance.

The manufacture of the offered differential geared variator can be organized in several months at any machine-building or machine-tool plant or even at a workshop. Its manufacturing does not need any complex equipment. All components are made in Ukraine and widely available.

The author had created a test sample of the variator that made a good showing.
